Filming Diary #1

Members of the group:
  • Oliver Bridle
  • Edward Lai
  • Nicholas Bryant
  • Ergist Grricaj

It is difficult to plan our activity that we spend on filming and setting up due to members of the group not being available to come because of other events or school work to do. We have been planning and discussing the work continuously throughout the lessons during school time.

Friday 6th January 2017 - 1st day
On Friday, Oliver and I went to his house after school to learn how to use the camera and practice using different angles and shots to see which is effective. We tested methods of shots such as side shots, close up, tracking shot and more. The first thing that we did before filming was test the camera to see what it is capable of doing and to set it to the right setting for the right time, brightness, contrast and temperature so that the picture will look better. We also tested the tripod by seeing where the most effective position to place it was and to see if it’s stable before attaching the camera so that when we are filming the camera won't move around a lot or won't fall over. We also tested the height so that we can fit the person, setting and prop in the frame.
We tested different places inside the room to see which places has the best possible lighting so that the character and the setting can be brightened and seen. We had a toy koala as a test subject since it was easy to position and keep in the same place for a long duration. It also allowed us to explore the different functions of the camera such as lens focusing, lighting levels and other capabilities of the Nikon camera.
