Monday 13th March - 4th day
We arrived at Oliver’s house after school to continue filming our scenes.
This time, Ed had brought his professional ‘Icicle’ microphone which meant that we could enhance our sound for our filming. The microphone was very sensitive to the sound because it needs to capture noises coming from the area around it clearly and effectively, the issue with this is that it can easily pick up noises coming from another room and this can greatly impact the realism of our shots.
We already had the scenes filmed from the night before but because of the new microphone, we had to re-film scenes and record the sounds separately to the footage along with filming and recording the sounds at different times. We had set up the computer outside of the lounge to connect the microphone to record the sounds and keep them in a stored area to let them be easily accessed and processed for later editing.
Re-filming scenes were difficult because it was time-consuming and stressful for each of the group members since it was frustrating to get the exact shots that we wanted.
We had to work at Ollie’s house until late hours which caused issues with the families because the area we were in had a long distance from our houses and it got dark outside quickly.
In between the periods of filming that night, Ollie asked me to stand in one place and look into the camera lens. We tested out a feature on the camera that allowed us to do a ‘dolly zoom’ and it looked like an effective and professional since it is a unique feature used in famous movies. We were originally going to put this into our production as a realisation about who the antagonist is in the original concept but we found that it was too complicated and difficult to control.
One scene needed 3 people in the shot and someone to film from the other side of the room but we didn’t have anyone in our group to film so we managed to get Oliver’s sister to pose as Ollie’s character as they were looking at the detainee. His sister is seen on the left of this image and Oliver is standing at the doorway of his conservatory as he captures the shot of both detectives and the detainee.
