Intro Analysis - The Conjuring (2013)
The film opens with a narration on a black screen,
immediately there is a sense of mystery because the audience has their sight
restricted.
The first shot we see is an extreme close-up of the doll's face, the effect of this is to make the audience unsettled. It is battered and old which creates an enigma for the audience on how it could have got to this condition.
The hallway shot is used frequently in horror movies because of its enclosed and claustrophobic feel. It makes the audience feel trapped and forces their view to a single point on the screen, making the horror moments more effective because the audience has few options on where to look.
Match on action is used when the women open the door.
