Filming Diary #3

Thursday 9th March - 3rd day
On this day, we were planning to film the beginning of our short movie around Oliver’s house along with film the interviews and taking pictures of our costumes.
When we arrived at the house after school, we contacted one of our actors, Jay Bateman, and he said he can no longer take part in our project due to complications. This was problematic because we had already filmed ⅓ of our sequences and we the loss of our group member meant that we had to re-plan and re-film our scene which added stress and it delayed our project completion. To overcome the obstacle we had to make large changes to our plans and replace Jay with Ed instead to be our main character.
Oliver had his dad’s old clothing which we thought will be a suitable look for our characters since we based our short movie in the 1970s.

Since our scenes were shot in the dark, the whole costumes were not seen by the camera. This can be seen as a good thing because the changes in small details cannot be seen and can decrease the chance of ruining the continuity.

We started by getting changed into our costumes to enable us to film our shots. It was too bright to film our main scenes because we needed dark lighting for our questioning area and to continue being productive we filmed our interviews for our coursework. The issue that we had with filming these were that we were not confident with our words and we were unsure of what to say, this meant that the interviews took longer to film than we filmed. Altogether, we had to film three interviews and the lighting in the background changed significantly from the first and second interview because it getting dark outside fast.

We filmed in Oliver’s lounge because it was the most suited place for our low lit scene. We set a desk up to use as a table that will typically be found in police investigation movies, the area around the table could not be seen by the camera because the lights were turned off, this was a good thing because it makes our setting seem more realistic.

We were not able to film all of our scenes we wanted because we didn’t have enough time and we didn’t have enough people to help us film specific parts. Another reason why we could not film our scenes was because we needed a 3rd person to film the three of us in one shot.
